"What remains is future"

During XCI's early period of "new music" (from Darryl Ohrt's 'Adventure Jukebox' to the full-time change in format and the rise of the 'Radio Underground'), many of us knew of CBGB's. Station staffers, jocks and others went to shows there, others heard about shows or bands that graced it's stage and there are others (like myself) who never made it there at all. With it's closing last night (10/15 with Patti Smith), another page is turned in the rich history of rock music. Another lost venue with an amazing laundry list of performances.

If you or someone you know went to CBGB's during it's heyday, or even over the last year, raise a glass and mark it's passing. There are plenty of places to see bands these days, but for some it won't be the same without that scrappy club in the Bowery.

I think I went there once...Similar thing happened in Honolulu recently when Wave Waikiki, which was the CBGB's of the islands not only closed but the building was demolished to make way for a condo. Wave Waikiki lasted 25 years. You can read a bit about it here

I think you may be right Rabb, although I suspect Greg "Mr Doughnuts" and Rasputin are regular lurkers.

I'm really out of the radio loop these days although I do check in to IRH from time to time. As soon as we figure out how much financial damage our latest "home improvement" project will be, I may even be able to send ya another check!

What was your latest home improvement project?

I finally hung a 14'4" handrail on my staircase. That was interesting and time consuming too.

Last weekend I changed out a ceiling fan motor, and put up window blinds in the newly re-done living room and our old kitchen which had a lot of boxes stacked up in it. I also took all those boxes of stuff from the old living room setup and stacked them in the back lower big room in side the old living room shelf units which are also now back there. Now we can walk around the kitchen table and open the new windows. Maybe this weekend I will paint the big wall in the kitchen to see how it will make the rest of the room look.

It is endless but I love it.
