The very first song
In one of the comments, Randy asked if anyone knew the first song played on WXCI. Since Rabbett was the first voice on the station, I thought he might remember, so I shot him a quick email.
Nope.
He said Tom Z. might know, or have access to some of the original logs - but the chances are slim.
Anyone want to create some guesses or rumors? How about Sly and the Family Stone? Something off Let it Be?

I'm confused. When I was at XCI from about '86 to '91 we broadcast at 760 Watts.
I don't remember either. Everyone's mind was racing and the excitement level so intense when the initial switch was flipped, that nobody was actually paying attention to what was aired after Rabbett's immortal words introducing WXCI to the airwaves.
If any old program logs exist from those days I'd be really surprised. And if they could be found under all that debris in the current studio (based on the last posted pictures), I'd not only be surprised, I'd be amazed.
It is my recollection that the 'new' transmitter broadcast at 760 Watts with an effective radiated power of 1200 watts. - Gregory Wencek
